Signapore Math

Singapore Math is our math curriculum.  This curriculum is focused on mastery and problem-solving; not just teaching to a test. Singapore Math uses the Concrete > Pictorial > Abstract approach. The students are provided with the necessary learning experiences beginning with the concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage to enable them to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving. The books emphasize mental math and the model drawing approach.

Helpful tips at home:

Practice sorting! This can be fun! Have your child help sort dishes/clothing/toys etc.
Practice writing numbers 1-20. Correct numbers if they are being written backwards.
Count objects. Practice counting any kind of object at home in sets of 20. If your child can count higher without making mistakes go as far as 100! Make sure your child is touching one object and saying one number by using one to one correspondence.
Have your child match numbers to a quantity up to 20.
